#do you ever get the sense that maybe no one asked flint before why he does what he does?#it’s not likely he’d tell them if they did#(unless they were as close to him as silver is of course)#but everyone’s always either bought into the monster image enough to assume#that he just does this because it’s in his nature#or has questioned his authority but not the driving force behind his decisions#(except to accuse him of that force being malice/selfishness)#john is one of the first people to recognize that there’s something deeper underneath#and to ask about the ghosts that haunt flint#i imagine that’s precious to someone who has been held so far apart#that people assume his demons ARE him#black sails#grumpy captain and quartermaster puppy-dog-eyes

#okay but this scene *screams*#the way silver says will you tell me?#like he is not sure flint will actually tell him#he probably doesn even expect james to completely open up with him#its so unlike him to speak that way#and look at flint#its like he was expecting that question#and he doesnt really want to answer bc ofc he never talked about thomas with anyone except miranda#he never told his story to anyone#but its like he needs to and if theres someone who he could tell it thats silver#and i think james actually wants silver to know#he wants silver to really know him#to know all of him bc right now john is the only person that can understand him#the only person he can be himself with
