I was using 2 different reference photos for this one, didn’t really feel like figuring out what I wanted to do with the shirt, so… it’s barely there lol. I like working in this simpler style lately so I don’t have to fight with colors that much… also somehow I actually liked the rough lines so decided to just leave it this way.
I’ve just had one of the biggest tits tits revelations ever. Which is basically, when Flint is asking Silver for his story, he’s wearing this white shirt.
Which is extremely similar to what Thomas is wearing, even the rolled sleeves (also plz the similar poses)
And I can’t stop thinking about how this implies even further the parallels between Silverflint and Flinthamilton, the repetition of the pattern where Flint is to Silver what Thomas was/is to James. In the plantation, Thomas is Flint’s reward, his Penelope, his loved one. Is Flint finding happiness.
And I can’t help to think how Flint is Silver’s loved one, how in that cliff he was Silver’s happiness.
And okay, it’s just a white shirt with rolled sleeves but I don’t believe in coincidences, not like this, in consecutive episodes.
I’ll make another addition to that parallel.
Thomas was Flint’s emotional awakening and Flint was Silver’s. Thomas is Flint’s backstory. And Flint’s is Silver’s. So long, friends, I will never stop suffering.
His humanity asserts itself when it is grasping for relationships with other human beings. He starts in a place of having lost Thomas Hamilton, who was very meaningful to him, and then having lost Miranda in such an awful way that he feels alone. Part of the journey in season three is finding a new person that he feels he can be vulnerable with and understood by, and it comes from a surprising direction.
Part of the arc of the season for us was about him really flailing alone and not having anyone to have that human experience with. [We liked] him finding John Silver and having that become the person with whom he’s able to emerge from this awful experience he’s having.
I imagine it’s what makes you so effective as an officer. But when exposed to extremes, I could not imagine what it is capable of. And of greater concer, I’m not sure you do either.
