What they took from Flint…

I’m listening to Toby’s interview on FD and what he has to say about Flint/McGraw’s brilliance, leadership and ability as a Naval officer and the potential high racking career for a man from a humble background that was also stripped from him.

And it has me feeling that although Thomas was his truest love, we do a great disservice to Flint/McGraw as a character when we reduced his trauma, loss and motivation to only his sexuality.

Silver: If it’d gotten out, what he did, you would likely be stranded back in Nassau. Most of our men would be dead, and those that weren’t would be back in those cages right now.

Flint: So you sent the vanguard to make sure that he understood this? 

Silver: To prevent him from getting any ideas about doing it again, yes.

Even if we could make it ashore safely, even if we could refit amidst the chaos that has been sown, even if we could ignore all of this and go on to win the Urca’s gold, what then? We return home only to have Vane extort from us the very prize that we have sacrificed so much to win? Nassau was unable to resist him.
But we have yet to have our say.
So at sunrise tomorrow, we make our terms clear with no room for bargain or compromise.
