Day 4: Platonic Rarepair – Flint & Gates

How much has Mr Gates had to endure from Flint over all the years they spent sailing together? The rages, the secrets, the petty grudges, the rudeness, the stubbornness, the reckless plans… and Gates just followed along and made sure things ran as smoothly as possible. Not just for the crew. For Flint.

Because they’re also really good friends, or at least as good friends as Flint can achieve in his Nassau rage-state. If Flint told anyone anything, it was Gates he turned to. Gates stored his precious stuff in Flint’s house. Gates could make Flint laugh. They got drunk together. They probably had a ton of stupid adventures together.

And Gates probably spent a lot of time dragging Flint away from ill-advised confrontations, which is what inspired this pic. (he’s probably raging at Vane)

Painted in Photoshop, mostly with oil brushes. This was so much fun tbh, and I’m actually happy with how it turned out (especially that the hair & shirt turned out ok, lol). Played with color layers a little bit after if was otherwise finished. >:)
