“I’m thrilled to be the face of Woman by Ralph Lauren, especially at a time when the idea of femininity is evolving. Women can be powerful, graceful and complex, with the ability to make any choice they desire.”
— Jessica Chastain[x]
I am not one to go for traditional female roles, because I don’t think traditionally female characters are very interesting, and I don’t think they represent real life. I’m working hard to break free of stereotypes that the film industry has created and nurtured around women.
I have always known I wanted to be an actress, but my NY experience made me realize that my desire had nothing to do with becoming famous or making money, I was interested in exploring the human soul, its complexity, I wanted to work to understand something about life and myself. Being an actress means being in another person’s shoes and therefore understanding what the person whose role you play feels; but also connecting with other human beings, as a mark of profound professional intimacy, that often touches the soul.
