People need to see a black trans woman having fun, being successful,
living her best life, in the face of all the violence and all the
disenfranchisement. I deserve to live a good life. But I still have
trauma. I still have the memory of being kicked on the street a block
away from here and being catcalled and misgendered. It’s important for
me not to get caught up in thinking I’m so fabulous, or I’m better than
somebody because I’m at a party.
