it really is a muscle that you have to tone up. [laughs.] it’s like heart gymnastics. i was pleasantly surprised by myself and
what i have in me – by what won’t break me. and i’ve had an amazing
year of re-getting to know who i was at the time that i made it. i feel a
lot of tenderness and a lot of appreciation for that whole period, and
for myself being able to muddle my way through it.

“It’s hard to say specifically which moments were memorable because being a part of Black Sails changed my life so dramatically for four years. So much was memorable. The biggest thing was probably working with my cast mates, who challenged me as an actor everyday on set. Their creativity, enthusiasm and skill level reminded me why I became an actor. Acting isn’t fun for me when it feels easy. I like to be challenged, and working with actors of that caliber was like daily acting class.”
